Having a sweet tooth can be a killer especially when you are trying to eat healthily, but with a bit of thought and a plan you can still enjoy a treat, and still eat good nutritious food and look after yourself.

How about healthy chocolate brownies to keep you going?

A healthy brownie is possible

The key ingredients to avoid are flour and sugar. So you need to replace these with other healthier ingredients, let's have a look at the ingredients.

  • 1 cup mashed sweet potato - Use leftover sweet potatoes and alter the amount of the other ingredients depending on how much you have left.
  • 1/2 cup cashew butter or almond
  • 1/4 cocoa powder
  • 2tbs maple syrup
  • Chopped nuts or cocoa chips optional

How to Make

1. Preheat the oven to 200 ish degrees
2. Warm the nut butter over a double boiler - This will stop it burning the pan
3. Add all the other ingredients into a mixing bowl
4. Add in the warmed nut butter and mix until it looks like a mousse
5. Place the mixture into a greased dish and
6. Place in the oven
7. Check after 15 minutes, using a knife in the middle of the mixture
8. Decide on how gooey you want them
9. When cooked remove from the oven
10. Once cool, or if like me when still warm as you cannot wait enjoy

Some Alternative Options

Try replacing an amount of nut butter with an equal amount of coconut butter. The brownie will have a coconut taste.

Chopped nuts or dried berries, like goji berries, add a nice texture too.

Cut the brownies into portions sizes and store in an airtight container in the fridge. You can even freeze them to last even longer which is great if you batch cook.

When you need something a little sweet and naughty you can just take a piece from the fridge and enjoy knowing you are still eating healthily!
