Time is so precious and passes us by so quickly, I want to make the most of every moment, live my life to the fullest and not waste a single second doing things like hanging socks up!

So that is why I run my life and home like a business.

Read on to find out how scheduling my time allows me to have quality time with Benjamin, do the housework, eat clean nutritious meals every day, go to play groups, visit family and friends and have 25 hours a week to work on our online business.

And that's just Monday to Friday!

The schedule for the weekend is fun family time!

No work, no shopping, no cooking, no cleaning, everything is done through the week so as soon as Glen finishes work on a Friday we can get off adventuring and have some quality family time all together.

One sock two sock three sock four, five socks, six socks, seven socks there's still more!!! I found myself singing this in my head as I hung all of the washing out on the line, it seemed to be taking so long! And the small items seemed to be never ending!! All I could think about were all the other more important and interesting things I could be doing right now!

As much as I appreciate a good drying day and the look of sheets drying on the line, it is so time consuming and fiddly hanging all of the clothes out, especially the smalls! So I don't normally bother I just throw everything in the tumble dryer and forget about until I take it out.

Unfortunately the tumble dryer had come to the end of its life, and was on its way to appliance heaven (well it will be just as soon as the rag and bone men collect it) it had a good life, and had dried a lot of clothes in its time, even with a broken door it still carried on regardless but at 20 years old it wasn't too much of a surprise when it stopped working forever!

We knew it needed replacing but just hadn't got around to looking for a new one, until this evening when I was absolutely exhausted, had ten million other things to do yet found myself hanging socks up and singing about them! The week of the end of the tumble dryer was also the week that I had been recording a detailed timetable of everything I did with my day to see where I could make more time.

I'm currently developing our online business, as well as studying for diplomas in Nutritional Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy so I needed to identify where I potentially had free time and where I was spending a lot of time doing things that could be done more efficiently.

That evening I spent 20 minutes hanging the washing out! I usually do a load a day Monday to Friday so that's almost 2 hours a week that I was spending singing about socks!! I could write 2 blog posts in that time, create picture quotes to last a month, complete 2 lessons of a Diploma or do a whole load of research on how to improve life!

I announced quite adamantly, (and possibly a little too bossily) that we need a new tumble dryer now and I was not going to spend another second of my time hanging socks up! And that is why Benjamin has been barefoot all week (only joking, he likes having his toes out and it's been quite warm, he has plenty of clean and dry socks!)

The next day a tumble dryer had been ordered and the washing was left to mounting up in the utility room!

I can't believe how much time I was wasting on this and other things and it wasn't until I wrote it down and became mindful and aware of what I was doing that I realised quite how much more time I had than I initially expected.

I found recording what I was doing with my time really useful and managed to make a timetable for the week including when I will do housework, when I will do food prep and when we need a slow cooker meal and this has been really useful in helping make a meal planner and shopping list for the week, which is also saving heaps of time.

Once I could see when and where I was during the week I could plan shopping errands and visiting people around this to gain even more time; i.e. I will do shopping and run errands on a Wednesday after Benjamin's music group because I am already out yet only have half an afternoon, perfect to quickly whizz round doing any bits and bobs.

I worked out that I have 25 hours a week Monday to Friday to devote to our online business and set about scheduling this time to make it most effective.

For example I have 1.5 hour every morning whilst Benjamin has a nap, I stay upstairs because if I went downstairs I would get sidetracked cleaning something or doing something else, being upstairs I have an hour focusing fully on writing a blog or completing a lesson of a Diploma, followed by 30 minutes working on our online business. That's 2.5 hours of quiet focussed productive work a week that could quite easily be sucked up in to ‘faffing' or ‘procrastinating' if I went downstairs.

I love having a schedule and I love being organised it makes life so much more pleasant, simple and efficient.
Following my schedule I will have quality time with Benjamin, all of the housework will be done, we will have clean nutritious meals every day, we will have time for play groups and to visit family and friends and I will have 25 hours a week to work on our online business.

And that's just my Monday to Friday not quite 9-5!

I have nothing scheduled for the weekend! No work, no shopping, no cooking, no cleaning, everything is done through the week so as soon as Glen finishes work on a Friday we can get off adventuring and have some quality family time all together.
