Ever had one of those days when everything goes wrong? From the moment you wake up, it feels like the world is against you and you end the day wishing you had just stayed in bed.
Well, what if I told you it was all in your head?
Now I don’t mean you’ve made it all up and that these days didn’t really happen, what I mean is that focusing on the problems and negative aspects when things go wrong actually puts you in a negative frame of mind and when you feel like this everything seems worse than it actually is, it creates a domino effect of negativity and you find it difficult to find the positives and the solutions.
When you’re in a positive frame of mind it is easier to find the good in situations you are faced with, resolve problems more effectively and ignore unproductive thoughts, this helps you get to the end of a tough day with a smile on your face knowing that although there have been some challenges you have dealt with them efficiently and not let them dampen your mood.
There are some situations out of your control, life is tough at times and you will always have challenges and difficulties to overcome, I am a positive person, annoyingly positive to some and I do live in a happy little bubble filled with rainbows and sparkles most of the time but I certainly don’t walk through life wearing rose tinted glasses, I struggle at times just as much everyone else but I know that although I can’t always control my circumstances I can control how I respond, everyone can, you are in control of how you react, and if you can change the way you think about things you can change your life!
Here are my 5 top tips to getting in the right frame of mind first thing in a morning because once your brain is in a positive mode you are much more likely to have a positive day whatever life throws at you!
1. Smile and be thankful
Before you even open your eyes, smile, let your mind drift for a moment to think of all of the wonderful things in your life to be grateful for.
The people that love, support and inspire you
That you have a roof over your head
That you have food in your cupboards
That you are alive and have been blessed with another day in this beautiful world
Once you start thinking about all that you have to be grateful for you will be getting out of bed with a positive mindset and a smile on your face ready to embrace the day and all it has to offer. Keep those positive thoughts in your head as you start your day, if you keep your head full of all the wonderful stuff then there will be no room for any soul-sapping negative thoughts. You are awesome, get out of bed and be the best that you can be!
2. Make your bed
This is such a small thing that can make such a difference to your day, it is a simple task easy to complete that helps put you in the right frame of mind, a tidy environment is a tidy mind. Once you start being productive and tidy your day is more likely to flow in the same productive and efficient manner.
During the night we lose water as we breathe and sweat so we need to hydrate as soon as we wake up. Water helps lubricate our cells making it easier for our system to flush out toxins, transport vital nutrients to your organs as well as helping send messages around the body and to the brain. This gives us more energy, makes our brain work more effectively, stops us feeling sluggish and kick starts your body into a productive efficient awesome day!
I drink a pint of water as soon as I wake up followed by another pint an hour later
4. Get Moving
Getting moving kickstarts your energy production and gets your happy feel good hormone endorphins swimming around making you feel awesome. You don’t need to go to a gym or for a run just dance to the bathroom, run on the spot, run up and down the stairs, jump on your bed, dance in your pants, do anything, just let your body be free and move how it wants to, in fact the sillier the better then you can have a good old laugh at yourself too!
Even better if you can whack some feel good tunes on and get moving to them, I like to dance in my pants to I’m walking on sunshine much to Benjamin’s amusement, and he loves to bust some moves in his PJ’s too! Our morning grooving often ends in a tickle fight on the bed which boosts our mood and energy even more.
5. Do the thing you are dreading most first
Whether it’s paying a bill, making a difficult phone call or doing something stressful just get it done, if you put it off it will be there all day niggling you in the back of your mind which will subconsciously interfere with the other tasks you are trying to get on with. After it is done you can forget about it and everything else will be easier throughout the day. Once you’ve conquered your biggest challenge everything else will be a walk in the park and if you can fit one of them into your morning too then I thoroughly recommend it!
